We have been trading since 2015 and the work below is a fair picture of what that has actually involved — from a four-floor contemporary new build to a pull cord switch in a housing association flat. Both matter, and we take the same approach to each.

A contemporary new build near Oxford

The largest single installation we have carried out. A four-floor contemporary new build of the kind you would see on Grand Designs — extensive glazing, unconventional layout, and a specification well beyond a standard house.

The basement alone contained a swimming pool, a sauna, a cinema room and a kitchenette. Above that, four bedrooms with en suites, across four floors in total.

A building like that is not simply a bigger version of a normal house. Pool and sauna environments bring their own requirements for bonding, IP ratings and zoning. A cinema room needs the lighting, power and data planned together rather than bolted on. Extensive glazing removes the wall runs you would normally rely on, so cable routes have to be agreed early with the builder and are effectively fixed once the structure goes up. Get the first fix wrong on a building like that and it is not a small thing to put right.

Note on location: this was a project, not an indication of coverage. For domestic call-outs we work around Cannock and Staffordshire — see our service areas.

Reactive maintenance for a housing association

We carry out reactive maintenance for a housing association covering Birmingham, Walsall and parts of Wolverhampton.

This is the opposite of a planned installation. You are given an address and a fault description and you are expected to attend, diagnose and fix it in one visit, in somebody’s occupied home, with the certification and paperwork done properly.

It is a useful discipline to have. It means we are comfortable working in tenanted property, accountable for our records, and in the habit of repairing what is broken rather than quoting for a replacement that is not needed.

If you are a landlord, managing agent or housing provider looking for a contractor for reactive works, EICRs or remedial programmes, we would be glad to talk.

Full rewire of a 1930s semi in Dudley

A complete rewire for an elderly homeowner living in the property throughout. Work was staged around her so she was never left without power or lighting overnight.

Housing of that age and construction almost always needs a full rewire rather than a partial one. The original cable reaches the end of its serviceable life throughout the installation rather than in isolated patches, and patching it simply moves the problem along.

Full rewire of an inherited flat in Wednesfield

The owner had inherited the property from her mother and nothing had been done to it electrically in a very long time. She called us out expecting a small job. On inspection the installation was beyond repair rather than merely tired, and we rewired it throughout and certified the work to BS 7671.

Inherited property is one of the more common reasons people call us. A house lived in quietly for forty years often has an installation nobody has looked at in that time, and it is worth knowing where you stand before you spend money on decorating over it.

The everyday work

Most of what we do is not a flagship project, and we would rather be straight about that than pretend otherwise.
